Mow Strips
See Strategy in ActionMow strips are landscape borders implemented as a method to minimize the use of herbicides and the amount of labor and fuel needed for grass mowing and edging. This is also a means to control the spread of plant growth and to ensure plant species remain segregated where desired.

Figure 1. Mow strip around a typical sign Mow strips are typically a minimum of six to eight inches wide and constructed from durable materials such as brick, stone or concrete. Areas that are difficult to access or require extensive edge trimming are locations to install mow strips. Ideal locations include next to building walls or under fences.

Mow strips design should avoid right angles; instead implement curves wherever possible to increase mowing efficiency. Sidewalks and walkways are also implemented as mow strips.
